Return Of The Jungle Promo
Hey guys here's a promo of something I've been working on for the past few months at Vaibhav Studios. It's still under production and is a treat to work with one of the best talents in the country Vaibhav Kumaresh! Do check it out and lemme know what you think!
P.S. I animated: the rat shots, the first two crow dialogue shots, and the entire last sequence (the tortoise and the crow).
Hope y'all like it! :)

2d animation
Hey guys,
Its been a long time since i have posted something. I was going through the website of Animaxart Vfx, and i found this awesome video and portfolio of this guy MILKYEYES.
I just loved the way he has put his weird thoughts on paper, and i was blowned off by his crazy ideas. This should be an inspiration to everyone to go wacky.

Boy! Libera Artisti Hiring
Hi Monsters,
Some of you here are familiar with the name Libera Artisti , and some of you Aren't . Blame it on me since I, the lost mentor sheep of animation monsters, the prodigal Admin who never returned for last couple of years. Well, I am back now, and you can start slaying the biblical fatted cow or the fatted vinay ( :D ) ! Damn, You can kick my butt later. Now listen to me for a second. We started Libera Artisti as a brotherhood of three artists. We'd been into comic books and stuff. Now we are taking it to the next level, Branching out as an animation studio based in Bangalore. And how are we gonna do this? Yes . I know . 3D 3D 3D. the Boom just killed the good old grace of 2D everywhere. We thought, why not look at it through an eye of quality again. We love 2D animation. And I bet my ass you all do ; eventhough most of you are digging through the -y axis of 3D world. All I want to say is , Have a look at our trailer. If you think you can deliver this or better, please do send in your showreels and resume. We are looking for young, enthusiastic people to build a core team that does only original contents. No outsourced work. No factory timings. Just trying to build a place where an animator/artist can forget about his worries and create . :)
This is our first project.

TinTin Secret of the Unicorn - WOW!!
So I just got back from watching TinTin (in IMAX 3D) and WHOA! What a movie!!
Absolutely loved the story (well of course, it's TinTin), and more importantly the storytelling. To me, they heightened the movie several levels above the comic (the desert scenes were simply breathtaking). Even the characters, barring the button eyes, looked almost exactly like those in the comic (loved Nestor and Bianca Castafiore) and thankfully didn't look awkward and dead, although at times I couldn't help wishing it was all animated instead of mo-cap. Thanks Spielberg and Jackson AND WETA for retaining the essence of the comic and yet making it a visual treat! I simply can't wait for the next part.
Here's the making of the movie. :)

Who's your daddy? (2D animation WIP)
Hey monsters, trying to do some 2D now. Here's a little clip that I keyed so far. I plan to add breakdowns next
before inbetweening it. Do lemme know if something strikes out as odd. My main concern is the
volume control. Thanks!
BTW, the video gets cropped on the blog, so try zooming in.
P.S. It's really difficult to find time to do personal work while doing a full time job haha! I'll try and finish it
as soon as possible though.

How cool would it be to control your MAYA camera manually instead of painstakingly
animating it! Well here's how! :D
Quote: CameraMan for Maya® is an iPhone app that allows you to

CameraMan is create handheld camera effects by using the Gyroscope

AnimRigs contest blocking
Hey fellas, long time!! I'm taking part in the AnimRigs contest (the prizes are superb!!). So here's my rough
blocking. I really need some fresh eyes on this so lemme know where I'm going wrong,
what I need to push or tone down etc etc, before I take this shot too far.
I got time till 8th May to finish this. BTW that robot guy's lipsync is just basic. I wanted
to see if I could convincingly animate that guy to talk (considering all that his jaw does is go up,
down and sideways).
P.S. I plan to further put a bone in the dog's bowl that's got cobwebs around it (I'll even put
cobwebs around his kennel) and I'll fill up the Robot's area with
lot of goodies (like toys, books etc).
Edit: Darn! The QT video gets cropped on screen right (in Google Chrome). I suggest you guys to
either zoom into the Google chrome page or watch it in Firefox or download the video. :)
EDIT 2: Here's the Flipbook test of the shot (I had the robot
spinning a basketball initially but dropped the idea because it
could mislead people to thinking the dog simply wants to know
"honestly" how to spin the basketball! Haha!)

Support Anna Hazare to fight corruption

Nothing to do with animation, but a lot to do with our country (and that affects animation too, indirectly or directly). We all know Anna Hazare, a 73-year-old Gandhian, is observing a fast until death in order to pass the Jan Lokpal bill to fight corruption, one of the worst evils of our society. I request all of you to support this great figure and sign this petition to force Govt to take action.
And yes, spread the word! IT'S NOW OR NEVER!

Dialogue wisdom by John K.
As an animator, it's important to learn how to analyze dialogues, how to analyze speech, even the pauses between the words (which, in my opinion, are more important than analyzing the words themselves, simply because the character actually comes from there). Like Ed Hooks says "Thoughts lead to emotions, and emotions lead to actions".
Here's a nice article by John K on what makes a good dialogue. It's from the perspective of dialogue writers but gives us a good insight on how to analyze them too, especially after reading the page below of the book ("The writer and the screen" by Wolf Peter Rilla) he was referring to .

Rendering your animations through Facebook?
Not really related to animation, but quite interesting. You can now render your animations through social networking sites (and much faster at that)! As of now it supports only Blender, but I'm sure things will evolve and MAYA too will be a part of it! More on this here.
