Build Up and Payoff

Just saw this clip and i had to post it right away... its not an animation but a real life clip. ( i hope the admins do kick me for this :) )

so first lets watch the clip and then talk.

Sneezing Panda

so as i was going through some random videos on youtube... i stumbled upon this and boy its a beauty. The title says "Sneezing panda" and as the clip started i was expecting the mother panda to sneeze but that was not to be... instead it was the baby who sneezed and scared the hell out of her mom. Now why is it so funny ?? lets try and dissect it.

- I think most of us ( or just me) expected the mother panda to sneeze because throughout the clip she is the only one who is moving... and also due to the composition of the frame and also due to the size difference, your eyes are stuck on her... and thats when the lil one sneezes ( its more like a bark rather then a sneeze :D )

- In animation if we have a build-up and the payoff becomes predictable... it doesnt work that much, or it doesnt work at all. And in here we have a payoff which no-one would expect , to top it all, the mother's reaction is priceless and of course the obvious size difference of some one small scaring some one 5 times bigger works splendidly.

- It also makes me think that if such incidents can happen in real life... then just imagine the amount "Build-up and Payoff" we can push and play around in our animations.

For me this video opened up a doors and windows of looking at things in life, what does it do to u ??

do comment and add in your thoughts :D

Cheers n happy animating

HOhoho!! hello monsters..i finished off my sem with this animation i call it [Goof Troop -day out]..hehe...i have to polish is still ^_^ comments plZzZzz..

VERTICAL LIMIT

Hello Monsters

Since past few months I,ve been focusing on compositions. There is lot to learn about composition but I want to share with you guys what I've got till now.
Though its not directly related to Animation but As we know Animators are Film Makers. so its become very important to make every frame good and counted. Its something about lines and Shapes in any composition.

We all guys must have seen Song Tanhai From DIL CHAHTA HAI. In that songFarhan Akhtar has composed most of the scene where we can see Vertical Lines.
Vartical lines in an composition always give more Tensed situation. In contrast horizontal lines divides compostion in layer so give peaceful mood. You can see in this image.(click for clear view.) And you can figure out tht these vartical lines are not by chance but intentionally framed.

So apart from animation there are things which create the mood. So Next time if you guys layout something...give some attention to this part also. Soonly I'll be posting about Lines...and what mood they create. By thn...

NOTE : Its not necessary that Verical lines only gives tense feel. But they add lot of energy and activeness also. So make your compostion smartly.

Quick Tip:Camera Rig

I know we hardly do any camera movements for our assignments at Takshaa, coz if we dont get it right it looks crappy... and as Manu Sir told us once during the class that camera movement is an Art in itself which takes quite a lot of time learn. So why is it so difficult to move the camera in CG... I think simply because it floats... doesn't have a solid ground... and the camera movements we see in the movies are so great simply because the camera is stacked on a trolley or crane or whatever the most modern equipment they use to have a precise control over the movement. Also over the period of time our eyes have accustomed to smooth camera moves. (thanks to all the movies we see). So for quite some time now i have been toying with this camera rig below and its been working fine for me, so far. But ya... this can be improved i guess... so all you monsters do let me know what are ur thoughts and please do comment if this rig can be improved.

Waiting for ur comments,
Chintan :D
